Most people are familiar with the traditional police siren, but what most people are not aware of is that there is more than one kind available. The two main types of police sirens that are used by officers today are electronic and pneumatic and sirens. They are both truly unique in their own ways. Keep reading to learn more about them and how you can find different police sirens for sale.

Before There Were Sirens
Before either of these two types of siren were ever invented, first responders relied on church bells and steam whistles to inform people of an emergency. After some time, they began to use horns as a means to get through traffic and let pedestrians know that they were on the way. Even though each of these sirens were significant for a short period of time, it was time to keep up with the changing in the traffic and the population. Traffic started to become more congested and there had to be a change made in order for the siren to remain as effective. Over the years, there have been a number of different audible warning sirens and devices that emergency teams would use, but only a couple of them have overcome the test of time.

Pneumatic Sirens
Pneumatic sirens are often called coaster or mechanical sirens. These devices are much different than a siren that is electronic, because they have electric motors. Pneumatic sirens are constructed of aerophone that has holes inside of rotating disks. These holes are there so they can interrupt the air flox from the holes on the outer portion of the unit to keep air limited during certain intervals of time. The only downside to these types of sirens is that they use force air which could make the siren go off without warning.

Electronic Sirens
Electronic sirens have been around since 1965 and basically copy the sounds created in a pneumatic siren. However, they contain electrical motors. They do not depend on forced air so you do not have to worry about them going off at random times. Electric sirens use amplifiers and modulators to create their sound and have a number of different components that create unique tones for different emergencies. The electronic siren is the most common type of siren you see in emergency vehicles today.
